I see this question get asked by a lot of people who are just starting their spiritual journey and have no idea where to start. Most people will tell you to do research, but how do you know what to look up, when you know nothing about any of it? And even if you do know a few things, research can become very overwhelming very quickly. So what's a person to do?
Think less. My biggest piece of advice for you is to stop thinking so hard about it and stressing yourself out! A large part of your journey is to learn to trust your instincts. The mind is a powerful tool and usually can figure out what you need, before you even know that you need it. Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths and let the product call out to you. See a crystal that made you do a double take? Feel like a particular book stands out to you? Maybe you see a tarot deck and can't seem to let go of the thought of it? I have found myself drawn to so many crystals in stores or online and sure enough I will bring them home to find out that the energy they help with is exactly what I needed at the time. Listen to your intuition.
Take Notice of what draws your attention. Are there certain colours or scents? A specific animal? Are there historical attributes that really talk to you? Maybe you are intrigued by herbs and plants? All of this can help you get a better idea of what kinds of practices you are attuned to as a starting point.
Once you learn to trust in yourself, then comes the research. Why does this crystal call to me? What energy does it carry, that I need help with? How do I care for it in order to get the most from its energy. Always remember that tools/ crystals hold on to negative/positive energy just like we do and that could do more harm then good for you. You will need to cleanse them of any possible negative energies, but what cleanses one item, may damage another! For example; some crystals will fade in the sun or melt in water. There are plenty of apps and books that are highly recommended to help with this or even just a quick online search will tell you what you need to know.
There are also many social groups that you can join online if you come across more in depth questions that you can't find an answer for elsewhere. The online community loves to help each other out when in need. <3
Hope this helps to get you started!
